SAS Array Advancements

The MSA P2000 G3 SAS array builds upon its predecessor, the MSA2000sa G2, by incorporating the latest 6 GB SAS technology. With four host ports per controller, it allows direct attachment to up to four dual-path or eight single path rack servers. BladeSystems can leverage SAS array support through the HPE 6 GB SAS BL Switch.

High-Performance 10GbE iSCSI

The MSA P2000 G3 10GbE iSCSI array introduces high-performance host connection technology, typically found in higher-priced arrays. Its bandwidth, coupled with server consolidation, proves advantageous in shared storage configurations. Commonly, the array connects to 10GbE switches, which are subsequently linked to 1GbE NICs. Directly attached server support necessitates 10GbE NICs on the server units.

The MSA P2000 G3 iSCSI controller features four 1Gb iSCSI Ethernet ports, doubling the number of ports compared to the G2 model. This design balances cost efficiency while significantly enhancing performance capabilities, particularly in terms of interconnection.

All MSA P2000 G3 models support hot plug replacement of redundant components, ensuring continuous operation. The arrays provide significant data protection advancements, including standard sixty-four snapshot capability (expandable to five hundred and twelve snapshots), Volume Copy (clone), and optional Remote Snap (replication) capability on the FC, FC/iSCSI, and both iSCSI versions.

Chassis Variability and Expansion

The MSA P2000 chassis comes in two models, catering to different drive sizes. The arrays offer flexibility in capacity expansion, enabling the attachment of additional drive enclosures, depending on the drive chassis and enclosure combinations:

• LFF Chassis: Features twelve Large Form Factor (LFF) 3.5-inch drive bays, supporting enterprise-class SAS drives, SAS Midline, and archival-class SATA Midline drives. Maximum capacity reaches up to 57.6 TB SAS, 576 TB SAS Midline, or 192 TB SATA Midline.

• SFF Chassis: Accommodates twenty-four Small Form Factor (SFF) 2.5-inch drives, offering similar drive options as the LFF chassis. Configurations can grow to a maximum of 178 TB of SAS, 149 TB of SAS Midline, or 74.5 TB SATA Midline, utilizing a total of 96 LFF or 149 SFF drives.

Both chassis configurations can support one or two matching P2000 G3 controllers, sharing the same protocol, and are available with either AC or DC power supplies.
